Asstistant Director – Communications & Outreach

To work effectively and efficiently to provide positive outreach and parent and community engagement for Frontier Schools.

  • Bachelor or Masters degree in an area relevant to coordinating school/community relations such as public relations, mass communication or equivalent education and experience from an accredited college or university.

  • Act as a strong contributing member of the District Outreach & Communications team

  • Develop special projects such as fundraisers, community events, school events, and opportunities to build support for Frontier Schools

  • Enter outreach activities into a monthly outreach report

  • Gather and/or prepare short articles of newsworthy events to share with the media, post on school websites, and add to monthly district newsletter

  • Document all assigned events with high-resolution photos and/or video. Store and house videos in the Outreach Google drive.

  • Add outreach community contact names and contact information to Outreach Google drive for use in distributing district newsletter

  • Arrange potential guest speakers, partnerships, etc.

  • Record regular weekly newsletter submissions regarding campus events and achievements in the Outreach Google drive for publication in districtwide e-newsletter

  • Train staff on protocol and best practices for visitors (Campus maintains a visitor ready state)

  • Prepare school for visitors, including notification of visits to staff, inform administrators. Provide school brochure, refreshments, Frontier gift bag and tokens.

  • Maintain an ongoing list and ability to share the accomplishments and accolades of various staff, students, and the Frontier community

  • Send special THANK YOU card to visitors, guest speakers, etc.

  • Represent school at educational, social, and business events (may involve accompanying other school staff and/or administrators)

  • Coordinate with school outreach coordinators for press releases for applicable school events and coordinate with the school outreach coordinator to follow-up with media

  • Incorporate social media communications (FB and Twitter) into daily communications with all stakeholders.

  • Maintain and update a media contact list for school

  • Develop a positive relationship with media to increase the awareness of school

  • Support and share best practices with campus outreach coordinators

  • Plan and coordinate applicable campus wide outreach activities

  • Visit community leaders, elected officials and media representatives

  • Invite community leaders, elected officials and media representatives to visit the school.

  • Visit community centers, non-profits and other community organizations

  • Organize and coordinate regular campus events

  • Organize and coordinate luncheons

  • Gain positive local news coverage

  • Gain positive national news coverage

  • Maintain and manage consistent Facebook/Twitter posts

  • Support the Director of Communications & Outreach as needed.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral forms with all levels of management, both internal and external to the district.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships both internal and external to the district.

  • Ability to organize special programs for assigned campuses.

  • Ability to use computer including software, database used by the district, calculator, copy machine, scanner, and telephone.

  • Ability to analyze data

  • Ability to use effective interview techniques, effective public speaking skills, and problem- solving skills

  • Light Work: may require occasional light lifting.

  • Nights and weekend activities will be occasionally required.

  • Position is an office position but does require some rotation between schools throughout the week.

  • Local travel is required.
